The greatest things ever made were not accidents.
At the bottom of all of them was understanding people.
Not users. Not demographics or personas or target audiences. But people. How they live. What they reach for without thinking. What makes them slow down, look twice, trust something before they have decided to.
Design is how people interact with their surroundings. It decides how a person picks an object, what they do with it, how much time they spend with it, and how they feel after it. If I may, design decides whether our idea, product, space, has served its purpose. And the best makers have always understood people.
The best makers also have an opinion. They know what makes something good. They know what makes it useful.
By going wide. By living in different places. By being curious. By meeting people. By asking questions. They know taste and judgement does not arrive. It accumulates. Over time. Through experiences.
These makers then had the freedom. To follow their judgement. To trust their instinct. To walk the road less taken.
As a community, we chase this freedom. The chance to make the world a better place. And to make people’s lives better and more joyful.
